Smooth-Finished Leather Care Guide
Smooth-finished leather has a cleaner, more polished appearance with a slight shine and smooth texture to the touch. Unlike oil-tanned leather, it feels drier and more refined rather than oily or rugged. Regular care helps maintain its rich color, finish, and overall durability. Red Wing’s simple 3-step routine — clean, condition, and protect — keeps smooth-finished leather looking sharp while helping prevent drying, scuffs, and everyday wear over time
01. Clean
Use warm water and a brush to remove dirt from footwear. Dry with a cloth. For heavily soiled areas, apply Foam Leather Cleaner with a cloth or brush. Wipe cleaner away with a damp cloth and allow leather to dry.
02. Condition
Apply Leather Cream or Neutral Boot Cream to any smooth-finished leather to hydrate the leather without darkening and bolster water resistance. Black, Brown can be used to cover scuffs on corresponding leather color.
03. Protect
Add extra protection to preserve your footwear. Lightly mist footwear with Leather Protector six to eight inches away from the leather in a sweeping motion. Leather Protector provides an invisible shield against moisture, dirt, oil and mud. It will not darken footwear.
