To celebrate the start of the season, we're introducing a special new colourway in one of our most iconic silhouettes. For decades, Red Wing boots and the rich indigo tones of denim have gone hand in hand, becoming timeless staples in wardrobes around the world. This shared heritage inspired us to bring the two together in a unique new way.
Developed by SB Foot Tanning Company, Red Wing's own tannery, the 8809 Tidal Moc features a striking Tidal Blue Roughout leather. The result is a colour that feels both distinctive and familiar—bold enough to stand out, yet rooted in the timeless character that defines Red Wing Heritage.
To mark the launch of the 8809 Tidal Moc, Red Wing Heritage teamed up with Austin, Texas-based cyanotype artist Laura Rostad to explore the story and inspiration behind this special colour. Drawing from the deep indigo hues of the leather and denim traditions that have long been part of Red Wing's history, Laura created a series of artwork using the cyanotype process.
Laura Rostad is an Austin-based multimedia artist and photographer whose work centres on cyanotype art and community-led workshops. Through sustainable, hands-on printmaking techniques, she creates unique pieces using natural elements, photography and the power of sunlight.
The artistic process itself has a fascinating history. Cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic printing techniques, invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel. Known for its distinctive deep blue and white imagery, the process involves coating paper or fabric with iron salts and exposing it to ultraviolet light. Objects, plant materials or photographic negatives placed on the surface create detailed impressions that are revealed when the print is washed with water. More than 180 years later, cyanotype remains a celebrated craft, admired for both its simplicity and its uniquely beautiful blue tones.
Through this collaboration, the heritage of Red Wing, the craftsmanship of SB Foot leather and the artistry of cyanotype come together to celebrate the enduring connection between indigo, denim and the boots that have accompanied generations of wearers.

The Round Toe
The origins of the Red Wing Round Toe date back to 1941, when Red Wing introduced the Style 777. Designed with fewer seams, improved waterproofing, and enhanced comfort, it represented a significant evolution in work boot construction.
In 1953, the 777 was joined by its sibling, the Style 766. The traditional heeled sole was replaced with a Cushion Crepe outsole, creating a softer ride and introducing a silhouette that would become synonymous with Red Wing's Heritage collection.
The modern Round Toe, introduced in 1985, carried forward the seamless heel construction first developed for the 777. This design had already proven itself over decades of wear, offering superior comfort, durability, and protection from the elements. Today, the Round Toe remains one of the purest expressions of Red Wing's work boot heritage, combining historic design with timeless craftsmanship.
